In last night's Bible Study we started the book of James and we were challenged by God to not only be hearers of the word but doers of the word. In our group discussion we decided that we are going to try to start doing more for the furtherance of the Gospel. As a group we are looking for avenues that would be feasible for us to help others with their needs in a winsome way and do the best that we can to spread the Gospel.
We mentioned a few different ways that we might do this. Once a month we are going to try to reach out as a group to build our fellowship and to strengthen our capabilities of spreading the truth. We mentioned going to the Nursing Homes to Volunteer and to witness to all that we come across, going to a jail service with another church to aid them in their ministry to the incarcerated, helping out at the homeless shelter, going to the youth detention center to see what kind of ministry that we can do there, and doing something with the youth. We also discussed going and talking to the Mormons and to the Jehovah's Witnesses to see if we can shed some light on their misunderstandings of the scripture (of course God would actually have to do all the work - we would just be the vessel).
Then last night on the way home Heather mentioned to me that we should each have a personal challenge that we do each week. I think that this is a great idea and I also think that on the next Bible Study that we have we should each share what we each did. We can see how easy some tasks are and how hard others can be. We will see our strong points and our weak points. We should discuss if we had to go out of our way to do the task, if we were shy and had to build up a lot of courage just to attempt the task, or if we forgot or got too busy or was just too nervous to do it. This is a good way to build our skills in witnessing.
So this week I want to challenge you to find someone to witness too. Don't limit yourself though anyone will do. Just get out there and witness to someone that you probably wouldn't witness to if you hadn't been challenged. We will talk a little about it on this coming up Tuesday Night. I can't wait to see you there.
Keepin you al in my prayers,
Cainan
